For the ancient Italic peoples it was a sacred river. On the shores, they erected sanctuaries such as the Demetra and Teano one.
The river Savone is born around 600 meters high from some sources in the caldera’s extinct volcano of Roccamonfina. In its 48 kilometres course, it passes by Teano, Fracncolise and Carinola and it flows close to Mondragone in the Gulf of Gaeta. It also passes through the Regional Park of Roccamonfina-Foce –Garigliano and it is exactly in that stretch of particular naturalistic value that it forms, in the woods, jumps and falls. One particularly, close to Teano, downstream from Ferriera delle Gomite, is 25 meters high. In the past, the water of the river Savone was used to make the ironworks run.
